405 credit card holders declared bankrupt in 2009

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 405 credit card holders were declared bankrupt due to credit card problems for the whole of last year out of a total of 3.2 million credit card holders throughout the country.
Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim said the number of credit card holders declared bankrupt last year had declined compared with 1,656 declared in 2006.
He said that, on the average, the percentage of credit card holders declared bankrupt was only 0.04% out of the total number of principal credit card holders during the last five years.
He disclosed this at the Dewan Negara when replying to a question from Senator Datuk Wan Hazani Wan Mohd Nor who wanted to know the total number of credit card holders, new credit card holders, problematic credit card holders and the number of card holders declared bankrupt due to credit card problems for the five-year period between 2005 and 2009. - Bernama
